Syrian Activists Mourn Death of Japanese Journalist

August 23, 2012

On August 20, 2012, Japan Press war correspondent, Mika Yamamoto, was killed by Syrian regime forces while covering the Syrian civil war in Aleppo. She died from wounds sustained from a gunfight between regime forces and opposition rebels. Japan Press released video clips of Yamamoto and her colleagues interacting with Syrians in the hours before the fighting. An award winning journalist, she was one of Japan’s most respected war reporters, having recently covered the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
