From blogging to Facebook, the Internet has become a center for dissent in the Middle East. Throughout the region, brave men and women defy threats and punishment to voice their opinions. We work to encourage online dissidents who promote freedom and democracy.
Bloggers in the Arab world and Iran are routinely intimidated and imprisoned. Punishing those who advocate and practice freedom of speech is a clear violation of basic human rights. We follow the cases of bloggers who have been threatened or imprisoned for their online activities and encourage the West to rally behind them.
